    DEVALUATION - THE HUMAN REALITY

    The pound in my pocket
is a pound in my pocket
    It doesn’t diminish or grow-

While the tooth in my mouth
is much less of a tooth
than it was only one year ago.

Now the truth of the tooth
which was loose in its socket
is only yours truly could use it.

When I try to exchange it
    for dollars or Francs
I’m met with a very wide
    grin and “No Thanks!”

    So the tooth, unemployed,
    Leaves an unhealthy void-
And a man fills in the socket
    With pounds from my pocket.
